The ion beam marking of diamonds and other gemstones is an elegant and safe way to provide a permanent mark on the table of cut and polished gemstones. The mark is not typically visible with a 10x loupe. A special in store viewer with monitor for customers to view the mark is available when mark is placed in the center of the diamond. Provide us with your logo and identification numbers, we will mark the diamonds and return them to you. A standard 60 x jewelers microscope can read the mark.

An advantage of providing an invisible mark on the table versus a visible mark on the girdle is that a laser mark on the girdle can be seen with a 10x loupe. Not being able to see the mark with a loupe provides an extra measure of security regarding ownership of the gemstone. Each gemstone comes with a numbered certificate that matches the number on the stone.
Another advantage of putting a mark on the table versus the girdle is that a particular setting will not interfere with viewing the mark when on the table. Often a setting will hide a girdle mark.
The ion beam process creates a clear mark on the table that does not interfere with the refractive light or fire of the diamond or other gemstone.
The ion beam is a gentle process versus the energy pulse that hits a gemstone when exposed to laser. The ion beam mark is machined atom by atom on the table. A laser imparts a significant amount of energy into the stone causing an explosive ejection of material at the focus, thereby causing a significant mark to be made; that's why laser marking isn't accepted on the table. Lasers penetrate the surface approximately 1000 nanometers; depth is difficult to control. The focused ion beam penetrates the surface only 20 nanometers and is highly controllable. Additionally, focused ion beam technology provides a resolution that is not capable with a laser. When one looks at a laser mark under a high-powered microscope one sees jagged edges, cracking and burn. The focused ion beam mark is clean, crisp and with high resolution.
